Birding has been slow according to most of the very plentiful birders I have talked to. For me, it really doesn’t matter. I have enjoyed the beautiful weather and the opportunity to relax and be outside. One of the main birding areas on the island is directly across from where I am staying. So, each day I have been able to visit the area several different times during the day. This morning when I was taking in the the quiet beauty of the trails I noticed a slight movement in a cavity of a tree. After observing the area several times during the day I finally was able to figure out what the movement was…..a raccoon!
Although this cute guy was the most unusual thing I saw today, I did see a few birds along the trails.
Later in the day I went to the harbor and took some photos of some of the shore birds that were hanging out on the rocks.
Finally, I went out to a marsh area near the Dauphin Island airport. It was a wonderful way to end another beautiful day.
