The last few months I have been pulled in a number of different directions. There have been a lot of things that have needed to be taken care of, and leisure time has not been on that list. Things have settled down a bit, and finally I feel like I can set aside some time to get out with my camera. It feels good to be back:-)
This beautiful owl has found the perfect nesting spot (in my opinion). She has a clear view of what is going on around her, and I have a clear view of her for some great photo opportunities. Thank you to my friend Bill for sharing her nesting site with me. I have stopped by to see her three times, and all three times she has been on the nest. Therefore, I assume she is incubating her eggs. It is going to be very interesting to watch her raise her babies!
I was so excited to get a photo of this eastern meadowlark! All last summer I tried to get a photo of this very common, but skittish bird found along the farm fields in my area. Most of the time when I would see one I couldn’t get close enough to get a shot. Today was my lucky day! This handsome guy was more than happy to stay put and sing a beautiful song for me.
Now, I am off to check out what all of you have been up to in the last few months!
Wow! You had a great day! I’m happy you finally got your meadowlark and that the owl was sitting on the other side so that darn stick isn’t in the way! Great pics! Hopefully, we’ll have some owlets to show soon!

Great to see your post! And what an exciting one with a nesting GHO and a shot of a meadowlark, which may be common to you, but are disappearing from many areas, with population declines of 50% or more according to the 2014 State of the Birds report. I expect it hasn’t improved significantly since then. Loss of habitat is a problem for so many species. So I’m happy that they are still singing and breeding in your area! Yay!

Thank you Eliza! I had no idea that the meadowlark population is declining. I live in a rural area where there are a lot of working farms. The area provides a great habitat for the meadowlark.

Glad to hear that. I think suburban development in rural areas of the eastern states had led to the decline. So many farms are now housing tracts.

Those zingers are what keep us going out for more,
Aren’t they? I try to work an hour of bird hunts into each week so I don’t feel so busy with the other more mundane stuff. Great shots. 😀
