Sunday morning started out cloudy but turned into a beautiful day. I headed over to Scott County Park in Iowa with my friends Bill and Chrissy. It was a real treat having Chrissy with us because I don’t get to visit with Chrissy very often. It was the first time I had ever been to Scott County Park and I was pleasantly surprised by size of the park and how well it was maintained. Almost immediately after exiting the car we were bombarded by gnats and mosquitos. Generally, the bugs don’t bother me, but even with insect repellent I was constantly swatting at them. Even with the annoying bugs, it was nice to be out enjoying a beautiful summer morning.
I was excited to get a photo of another type of sparrow (that makes six). Normally field sparrows are difficult to capture because they hide deep in the tall grass. This beautiful field sparrow was busy gathering nest materials and wasn’t shy about getting his picture taken.
After a couple of hours we decided to head over to Hampton, Illinois to photograph some pelicans. Last year Bill and I discovered that pelicans like to fish just below the dam on the Mississippi River, so we were hoping to get some good shots of some fishing action. The pelicans were there, along with a bunch of humans fishing too! We were lucky to get a spot!
