This beautiful ruby-throated hummingbird has been a regular visitor at my feeder. In fact, she will not let any other humming birds near the feeder. I have enjoyed watching her as she comes and goes, and especially when she oversees “her” feeder. She has not been around the past couple of days. The weather in my area has been much cooler; I am wondering if she has already headed south!
They sure are territorial! Not sure where you live, but I recently read that males leave in Aug. Females in Sept. and juveniles last in Oct. It’s interesting that they don’t all go together and that the juveniles have migration in their DNA, they aren’t ‘shown’ the way by adults who have made the trip before. Fascinating!

This is the first year that I have fed hummingbirds Eliza. I was very excited when I finally had one visit the feeder. I really appreciate your information; I had no idea about their migratory habits. It is interesting that the juveniles are the last to leave! By the way, I live in northern Illinois.

She is a real beauty Tiny. I just learned that this is the time of year that they migrate south. I am going to miss watching her!
