I know, beautiful and fly do not go together. Most of the time flies are considered annoying pests. However, this morning when I went on a hike with my good friend Bill, we spotted perhaps the most unusual fly that I have ever seen. As you can see the speckled color made it interesting to begin with. Then, when it raised its wings as almost a way of signaling something, I found it to be simply beautiful. My friend Bill is an insect expert! It always amazes me how quickly he is able to identify things. Shortly after I posted this, he emailed me that this is a peacock fly: BugGuide . If you get a chance, you should visit Bill’s blog, The Rural Path!
