The first day that I was in Fiji I noticed some large “bird-like” creatures flying around the hotel area. They looked like bats, but it was not dark, so I didn’t think that bats would be out during daylight hours. Later I found out that they were in fact one of the largest bats in the world, also known as a fruit bat, or flying fox. One of the locals showed me where they roost and I have enjoyed watching them each day. The two birds were evening visitors to a berry tree near the dock. They only stopped by as the sun was going down.
